What are some of the basic condiments you use to cook your meals?
I know my staples use to be BUTTER, OLIVE OIL, SALT and SOY SAUCE – the essentials to any good meal, right?
Now that I’m a health coach, I choose healthier alternatives that are just as delicious. Upgrade your health and your kitchen by purchasing these replacements instead. Here are four foods you should replace in your pantry.
Replace Butter with Organic Ghee
Ghee is clarified butter and great for people who are lactose intolerant because it’s 99% lactose free even though it comes from cows. Ghee has more medium and short chain fats which our body can digest better. It still tastes like butter but with more health benefits, so ghee is a great alternative!
Replace Extra Virgin Olive Oil with Virgin Coconut Oil
When cooking on your stove top, Virgin Coconut Oil is a better choice. Olive Oil has a very low smoking point which means there’s damage to the fat molecules in the form of smoke at a very low temperature. This smoke means free radicals (yikes!) are being released along with a chemical called acrolein, which gives burnt foods their acrid flavor smell. Many health professionals suggest limiting the amount of acrolein you ingest. According to a review by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants have also been linked to premature aging and cancers.
Replace regular table Salt with Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
This pink stuff is so precious it was used as currency many, many years ago. It has over 80 different minerals and bio compounds in it used to help improve respiratory and sinus issues, help detox, replenish electrolytes, relax muscles, and help with blood pressure. Basically you get more bang for your buck!
Replace Soy Sauce with Coconut Aminos by Coconut Secret
Most Soy Sauces are very high in sodium. This can cause a problem for people who have high blood pressure or other cardiovascular issues. Soy is also considered a legume which has things like phytic acid, lecins, phytoestrogens and considered FODMAPS. All of these things could cause more problems especially for people who have digestive issues like leaky gut, IBS and other digestive diseases. Read more about why people following the paleo diet stay away from legumes. Coconut Aminos by Coconut Secret is much lower in sodium and is considered low glycemic, an abundance source of minerals, vitamins and has 2-14 times the amino acids (think protein) content of soy.
