If a dog & cat do it, then why don’t we (a more intelligent species), do it?
I’m talking about a good morning stretch! We know it’s good for us, but we don’t always do it? WHY?! Here’s what I’ve experienced:
“I forgot”
“It’s not a part of my routine”
“It’s not fun enough”
All these excuses point to the fact that we aren’t moved (excuse my pun) to DO something about it. We aren’t connected to OUR WHY or what exactly it will give us.
If it was life or death, you’d do it right? If your families well being depended on it, you’d do it. I could give you more facts about increased mobility, flexibility, circulation and the likes. However, you’ve got to get connect emotionally to your why (make it fun) and connect to what stretching in the morning would give YOU personally (puts you in a better mood? helps diminish injury? critical to start your day right?). This is the same mentality for why you aren’t doing anything you actually want to be doing. Get connected to your big WHY and make it fun.
My favorite way to stretch in the morning is to dance my way out of bed. I put on one of my favorite songs and my body can’t help but move. Doing this first thing in the morning provides me with some fun, motivation to get up, a way to connect to my body, and never fails to put a smile on my face. Ultimately it helps me feel the most like ME.
This week I challenge you to take a moment right now and think; what will that goal I had do for me and how can I make it more fun? Then commit to doing it for just 7 days and take action tomorrow morning!
