How have you been feeling? If you’re like three of my clients and half of my friends, you might be feeling a bit under the weather. I’ve been asked several times this week about what I suggest to feel better. I’ve been having them consider this:
Are you giving your immune system the right ammo to put up a good fight and knock the disease down?
Last week I spoke to treating the symptoms vs. fixing the problem. When you start to come down with the cold or flu, we have lots of symptoms like achy joints, runny nose, congestion, sore throat and the like. All these symptoms point to the real issue: your immune system is down and under attack.
In the fall as it gets cold outside, we tend to spend more time indoors. This means less time in the sun which also means lower vitamin D levels (a huge contributor to immune strength). Indoors there’s also less air flow and a greater opportunity for germs to fester and for your body to become a vacation home for the attackers.
Your body is super smart (I mean it can grow a human being for crying out loud) but sometimes it doesn’t have the right weapons. A warrior can fight, but it’s much harder to fight off something with no tools, ammo or protection.
So how do you arm yourself to fight off colds and different strands of the flu?
Cheryl Delio from Studio Delcorpo interviewed me and got my top 5 things to do if you think you are getting sick or are sick and want to shorten the duration of your illness. She also interviewed Sinisa Blank, proprietor of Chicago Health Foods. Read her article all the way through because at the bottom is a bonus Power Pumpkin Smoothie!
